Prime Minister Lord Durbie passed the Act on 2 August 1858, following the signature of Queen Victoria, to end the flaws of the company's Dual Rule Diarchy in India. Its purpose was to prevent the recurrence of an event like the Revolt of 1857, as well as to establish administrative system to use India in the British colonial interest
